Hurdy Gurdy the Stringed Musical Instrument in Saint-Chartier Music Festival

In every year on July 14 a popular folk music festival is held at Saint-Chartier, France. The festival usually held in a week around July 14, this is also known as the Bastille Day. In this festival there will perform many hurdy-gurdy players.

The sound come out from hurdy-gurdy the stringed musical instrument, is like oddball- curved rosined. People make the sound by chafing against the strings. The sound is somehow heard like a violin. In order to make the sound of the string more audible this instrument has a soundboard. There are special things about this instrument that is a wheel on the side that functions like a bend over of violin and a keyboard made from wood, which functions for alter the pitch.

In many hurdy-gurdy they have numbers of drone strings that give a stable pitch together with the tune, and it will come out as the sound of bagpipes. In French and Hungary, the folks instrument players use bagpipes together with this instrument for interchangeable. This musical instrument first recognized by people in Middle East by Persian people, according to Ibn Khurradadhbih, Moslem geographer, who wrote in a book about this instrument, and it was formerly in form of organistrum with guitar shape of the body instrument.
