Neal Parker’s Death: the Last Racing for a Famous Drag Racer

The racing world once again lost its famous racer. Neal Parker, a 58 years old racer died in a tragic accident during a racing in his hometown on 12 June 2010. Parker was driving his car the Top Alcohol Funny Car. Parker crashed his car in the shutdown area in the qualifying round for the National Hot Rod Association Super Nationals.

At the time, the drag race began normally. At the finishing moments of the race, the parachute that normally would help the diver to stop the drag racing machine did not appear and deploy from the rear end of the racing car. As the result, the car slammed into the closing region of the track. The slam was causing the fire. Witnesses said that Neal Parker lost control over his car. Parker’s accident is the second fatal accidents in the NHA events in the two years. In 21st June 2008, the drag racing champion Scott Kalitta also lost his life in the event.

The death of Neal Parker is also the second death at the National Hotrod Association event in 2010. In the incident before Parker’s accident, a spectator was killed by a stray tire in Phoenix this year. The representative of the NHRA expressed their sadness on behalf of everyone at NHRA and Raceway Park toward the entire Parker family in the statement released on Parker’s accident.
