Frank Frazetta’s Painting Sold for $1.5 Million

Frank Frazetta’s 1971 painting has recently been sold for $1.5 million, just two months after the fantasy artist from Pennsylvania died. Frazetta’s managers mentioned that a private collector had bought Frazetta’s painting “Conan the Destroyer” for his family trust. Managers Stephen Ferzoco and Roberts Pistella said that the price was the highest ever for Frazetta’s work.

Frank Frazetta was born on February 9, 1928. He was known as a science fiction and American fantasy artist in whom he noted his work in paperback-book covers, comic books, posters, paintings, record album covers and some other media. Frazetta died on May 10, 2010 in Florida at the age of 82.

Frank Frazetta’s iconic illustrations such as Tarzan and Conan the Barbarian often graced album covers, comic books or even movie posters. Frazetta has given some influences to many artists in many science fiction and fantasy genres. One of them is Yusuke Nakao, who is Nintendo’s Legend of Zelda’s lead artist. In addition, Joseph Vargo, a fantasy artist, mentioned that Frazetta is his main influence. In the past few years, Frazetta’s children have always fought over a land estimated to cost more then ten million dollars. It is Frank Fazetta Jr. who brought a backhoe to try breaking into his museum in Pocono Mountains.
