Wyclef Jean’s Dedication to Haiti

Haitian born hip hopper Wyclef Jean now is trying a new career. He enters himself into the candidacy of 2010 Haitian presidential election. This ex-member of the Fugees is perhaps a newbie in the political field; nevertheless he has tremendous record of social acts. In 2005, Jean established the Yéle Haiti Foundation which provides the relief for the disaster victims in Haiti. In its first year, the Yéle Haiti Foundation gave 3,600 scholarships for children in Gonaïves, Haiti, after the Hurricane Jeanne disaster.

Natural disaster is something that really bothers Jean. After the Haitian earthquake on January 12, 2010, this singer and songwriter felt that he had to do more for his country. Considering himself having the capability, on August 5, 2010 Wyclef Jean filed for the presidential candidacy as a candidate for the Viv Ansanm political party.

So far, Jean receives positive welcome from the Haitians. As a well-known musician, he is credited to have never forgotten where he came from. Jean is also seen as the symbol for hope and new generation to the Haitians. Many sources reveal, had he pass the administrational selection for presidency, he would be elected as the Haitian president with not much effort. Supposed it happens, Wyclef Jean must prove his unproven political skills.
